The Partial Hospitalization Program at UM Health-Sparrow is designed for those who need intensive psychiatric support and therapy while returning to the comfort of their own home each evening.
We provide a warm, structured environment where you can focus on healing, developing coping skills, and overcoming the challenges that hinder your daily life. Our program emphasizes a small-group setting, allowing patients to share experiences and find strength in mutual support.
Who Would Benefit?
PHP serves as an effective "step-up" from traditional outpatient therapy or a "step-down" from inpatient hospitalization. You may be a good candidate if:
- Intensive Support is Needed: You require more than weekly therapy sessions but do not need 24-hour supervision.
- Daily Functioning is Impacted: Your symptoms (such as severe depression or anxiety) are interfering with your ability to work or manage daily tasks.
- Safety & Stability: You are medically stable and not at imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, but you require a highly structured environment to stay safe.
- Supportive Home Environment: You have a stable place to stay each evening and a support system to assist you outside of program hours.
Conditions We Treat
Our team provides expert care for adults experiencing:
- Depression and Bipolar Disorder
- Anxiety and Panic Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Personality Disorders
- Substance use (when managed as a secondary diagnosis)
Our Multidisciplinary Team
You will be supported by a dedicated team of professionals, including a psychiatrist, a registered nurse, fully licensed clinical social workers (LMSW), and an activity therapist.
Comprehensive Services Included
- Medication Management: Our psychiatrists and APPs will review your current medications to coordinate a plan for both your time in the program and your long-term maintenance after you leave.
- Daily Group Therapy: Evidence-based sessions led by clinical therapists to process emotions and build skills.
- Activity Therapy: Specialized sessions focusing on relaxation, stress reduction, and creative expression.
- Educational Classes: Insight into mental health, addiction, and wellness strategies.
- Career Support: Completion of necessary clinical documentation for employers (e.g., FMLA or Disability).
Program Structure
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately six hours per day.
- Duration: Patients typically participate for one to two weeks.
- Aftercare: Before graduation, we work with you to develop a robust follow-up plan for continued mental health care.
