About Me
Born in Lansing, Kara Hoisington, D.O., F.A.C.O.I., F.A.C.E., earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Ingham Regional Medical Center and fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center, both through Michigan State University. She was a partner with MidMichigan Physicians for six years prior to joining UM Health-Sparrow Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2015.
Dr. Hoisington provides evaluation, diagnosis, and long-term management for patients with diabetes and disorders of the endocrine system, with a concentration in thyroid disease, osteoporosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome and insulin resistance. She provides personalized, evidence-based shared decision-making with a focus on prevention and utilizing a holistic approach.
She is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism with advanced training in bone densitometry, thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration of the thyroid gland.
